Ch. 3: Most Effective Style (2 of 2)

MOST EFFECTIVE STYLE

I have to admit there isn't just one specific style that I necessarily feel is more effective than another. I will say I do not believe the directive approach is the best one, so I will rule that one out. I think it misses a great deal of respect and collaboration. For my personality I find that the supportive style works very well to motivate me, however for some it might not work as well. I am also very competitive with sports, so the achievement-oriented style also works, so long as the leader is collaborative and not too directive. I have had coaches in my past that I don't respect due to their lack of respect and lack of tact. To me they were not achievement-oriented. I also appreciate the participative style, but can definitely see how some individuals do not follow that one well. I see individuals in many facets of life that need a great deal of direction, and if you are too lax they push it too far. However, these individuals might struggle with a variety of leadership styles.

So for me I would break it down to 35% supportive, 33% participative, and 32% achievement-oriented style to be effective for my personality. Directive is simply not effective for me. Perhaps it's why I work for myself.
